Killing Nature, One Forest at a Time

Today, the unsustainable process of harvesting lumber and cutting down forests is out of control. One of the leading causes of the mass deaths of Marbled Murrelets, and thousands of other species, is deforestation. We are destroying forests, homes, and ecosystems when we log old-growth forests. There are multiple alternatives to clear-cutting forests: selective and strip cutting (also known as Shelterwood cutting). Click here for more information on these various methods of forest logging.

Clear cutting may be more beneficial to people but it is most harmful to the environment. Utilizing an alternate and ecologically sustainable method of logging would greatly benefit Marbled Murrelets. We would be able to continue using the land for many more years with strip cutting or selective cutting. This would protect a monumental amount of habitual land for Marbled Murrelets and other animals (Goldfarb 2016 and Scott, Miller 2015).
