Every Marble Counts

We are all connected somehow, some way, and Marbled Murrelets have an enormous impact on not only their companion species but humans as well. Marbled Murrelets are both land and sea dwellers. They contribute to both of these ecosystems in different, but equally important, ways. (Stroch and Jitka 2008). The Pacific Ocean has a vast food web that's intricate and complex, in which Marbled Murrelets play a vital role. They help control the populations of smaller sea animals such as capelin, smelt, herring, rockfish, pacific sandfish, shrimp, and krill. Without the seabirds, the food web would inevitably crumble.

Also, Marbled Murrelets are an indicator species in the forest and the ocean. They indicate whether the ecosystem that contains them is healthy or not. Being a indicator species is important because the condition of the Marbled Murrelets can indicate to scientist whats failing in a ecosystem and why. Murrelets are important for scientist along with the ocean and forests. (Kaufman, 2019)
