How Can We get the Chinese Giant Salamander Off The Dinner Plate?

As declared by the IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature), The Chinese Giant Salamander is critically endangered, but the importance of the protection of this species has been put aside by the chinese government (Red List, 2019). No laws or recovery plans exist in favor of the Chinese Giant Salamander, which is why the people of China and people involved with these salamanders must make the change themselves. The three major causes of endangerment of the Chinese Giant Salamander are their slaughter for gourmet meals, body parts used in various medicines, and destruction of their habitat (San Diego Zoo Animals And Plants, 2019). The simple solution would be to just tell restaurants to stop cooking them, get medicine companies to stop using them for various treatments, and stop logging and construction companies from damming the water systems where these salamanders live, but humans are much too stubborn. All in all, human population growth sealed the fate of this poor creature.

To begin to regenerate the population of this species will take a community effort. We must first educate people on this issue. Many do not know that the house they just built was on the habitat of these precious species, or that it's body parts are used in their medicine. Many also don’t know the severity of the situation, or is effects. Profit clouds people's minds, and distracts them from what is most important to themselves. It is our job to uncloud their minds, so that real change can happen.
