Subpopulation- The subset of a larger population
Salmonid- Fish family which includes all salmon as well as trout, chars, whitefish and graylings
Chinook- Also known as the king salmon, the Chinook is the largest pacific salmon species
Nutritional stress- Severe shortage of essential nutrients through starvation
River basin- A large area of land in which many rivers and streams drain into
Impassable- Impossible to more over or around a barrier
Chemical contaminants- Chemical substances toxic to plants and animals
Biomagnification- The concentration of toxics within an organism due to repeated exposure
Pollutants- A polluting substance
Pesticides- Synthetic substances cultivated to fight pests off crops
Vessel- A large boat or ship
Sonar- Echolocation used by many animals as a form of communication and awareness
Gestation period- The amount of time a mother carries their baby in the womb
Calf- A juvenile Orca
Post-reproductive female- A female at the age in which they are no longer able to reproduce
Apex predator- Species at the top of the food chain in an ecosystem
Indicator species- An animal that serves as an indicator on the health of an ecosystem
Indigenous- A plant or animal native to a region or specific place
Socioeconomic- Social and economic; socioeconomic means a group's social and economic standing
