Recovery Plan

Created by the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Institutional Repository in December of 2011, the recovery plan for the Balaenoptera borealis (Sei whale) is a detailed document regarding the current species status and a recovery strategy.

  • Recovery Strategy: Written 8 years ago, the plan specifies that there was not enough population data yet obtained, so the main focus of the recovery plan was to collect data. The NOAA planned to continue regulating international whaling, collect data specific to population size and trends, and begin to evaluate their collected data as it is produced. 10 years later (in 2021), they will decide if the data is sufficient enough to produce an accurate plan of action. If not, NOAA will continue research and data collection (NOAA, 2019).
