FAQ

Why are these geckos important?

The Antanosy Day Geckos are important to the island of Madagascar because they provide pest control, spread nutrients through feces, and are frequent prey for larger organisms. These geckos in particular are endemic to Madagascar so, they cannot simply be moved to another area or replaced by another species perfectly.

What more research is needed about these geckos?

There is little known about the Phelsuma antanosy since it is a relatively recent discovery. More basic information needs to be conducted and analyzed like their behavioral patterns, their breeding patterns, their exact areas of habitation, and their daily consumption. There is one such collection of observations by SEED(mentioned on “What Can You Do” page”) that is currently being analyzed.
