BOG TURTLE
THE SMALLEST U.S NATIVE FRESHWATER TURTLE
More humans living on our planet means more development will occur in places like wetlands, where the Bog Turtles live. The human population increases by over 228,000 every 24 hours (Population Institute, 2020)! We are reproducing at a rate so fast that our world is being overpopulated. Overpopulation can be a huge issue on our planet, causing: loss of freshwater, species extinction, lower life expectancy, increased habitat loss and increased climate change (Overpopulation Effects, 2009). An abundance of humans means that we are encroaching further and further upon Bog Turtle land, and limiting them to a more and more minuscule area. Individual Bog Turtles may be tiny, but they do need land to roam!
