Glossary:

Acreage- extent or area in acres; acres collectively.

Aesthetic- relating to the philosophy of aesthetics; concerned with notions such as the beautiful and the ugly

Alluvial fan- a fan-shaped alluvial deposit formed by a stream where its velocity is abruptly decreased, as at the mouth of a ravine or at the foot of a mountain.

Biodiversity- the variety of life in the world or in a particular habitat or ecosystem.

Conserve- to use or manage (natural resources) wisely; preserve; save.

Ecology-   the branch of biology dealing with the relations and interactions between organisms and their environment, including other organisms.

Ecosystem- a system, or a group of interconnected elements, formed by the interaction of a community of organisms with their environment.

Ecotourism- tourism to places having unspoiled natural resources, with minimal impact on the environment being a primary concern.

Endemic- Belonging exclusively or confined to a particular place.

Genetic diversity- Variability in the genetic makeup among individuals within a single species.

Habitat fragmentation- when a large habitat becomes separated from itself into smaller patches.

Harrowing- extremely disturbing or distressing; grievous:

Invasive- intruding a space.

Isolation- the complete separation from others.

Industrialized- to introduce industry into (an area) on a large scale.

Inhabit- to live or dwell in (a place), as people or animals

Large-scale- very extensive or encompassing; of great scope.

Nutrient Cycling- The circulation of chemicals necessary for life, from the environment (mostly from soil and water) through organisms and back to the environment

Pest Control- Pest control is the regulation or management of a species defined as a pest, a member of the animal kingdom that impacts adversely on human activities.

Petition- a formally drawn request, often bearing the names of a number of those making the request, that is addressed to a person or group of persons in authority or power, soliciting some favor, right, mercy, or other benefit.

Predator-prey population regulation

Preserve- to keep alive or in existence; make lasting.

Regulate- to control or direct by a rule, principle, method, etc

Species- Biology. the major subdivision of a genus or sub-genus, regarded as the basic category of biological classification, composed of related individuals that resemble one another, are able to breed among themselves, but are not able to breed with members of another species.

Subdivision-a portion of land divided into lots for real-estate development.
