GLOSSARY

Aeration- providing a supply of CO2 to the soil.

Biodiversity- the variety of life in an ecosystem that is needed to maintain a healthy ecosystem

​

Brood- A family of young animals 

​

Deforestation- the loss of forest lands at a higher rate than the forests can replace

​

Density- The number of animals per certain area

​

Ecosystem- a community of organisms that interact with non-living aspects of their environment

​

Ecosystem Services- The services an organism provides for its ecosystem

​

Endemic- Native or restricted to a certain location 

​

Limiting Factors- factors that limit a species ability to recover after a population decrease 

​

Nutrient Cycling- the repeated cycling of minerals and other nutrients that passes through organisms in an ecosystem

​

​

Organism- an individual that is living (plants, animals, single-celled life-forms)

​

Overexploitation- when the rate of harvesting exceeds the rate of reproduction.

​

Poaching- to illegally hunt or fish on land that is protected or otherwise not for public access

​

Population- the number of inhabitants in a particular habitat or area

​

Rehabilitation- to restore the former condition.

​

Reproduction Rates-  The rates at which an organism can reproduce

​

Seizure Incidents- incidents where pangolins have been confiscated from illegal poaching businesses

​

Species- a group of animals who can reproduce and exchange genes

​

Subsistence- strictly to provide food for themselves and their families.

​

Trafficking- dealing or trading in something illegal.
