Glossary

  1. Aeration- introducing air into another material

  2. Aesthetic- visually pleasing

  3. Agriculture- practice of farming. Crops, cattle, and animal products)

  4. Burrow- a hole or tunnel dug by a small critter

  5. Captivity- the condition of being confined (zoos, rehabilitation, ect.)

  6. Conservation- protection of a resource (preservation or restoration)

  7. Critically Endangered- facing an extremely high risk of extinction in the wild

  8. Degradation- the condition or process of lowering the quality

  9. Development- the process of converting land into a new purpose though construction

  10. Eastern Medicine- natural forms of treatment (herbs, oils, acupuncture, ect.)

  11. Ecotourism- tourism in natural environments intended to support conservation

  12. Endangered- at risk of extinction

  13. Forest Terrain- an area of land dominated by trees

  14. Grassland Terrain- an area of land dominated by grasses

  15. Lobby- an organized attempt to influence legislators

  16. Non-Profit- an organization not conducted to make profit, profit donated or used not kept

  17. Practitioner- a person who is skilled in a profession, especially medicine

  18. Red List- a list created by IUCN which uses data to evaluate extinction risk of species

  19. Sanctuaries- a place that provides protection

  20. Smuggler- a person who transports illegal goods

  21. Tilling- turning over or breaking up the soil, mostly for crops

  22. Trafficked- deal or trade in something illegal

  23. Vulnerable- susceptible to harm
